Wat een mooie beelden Marloes! Volgens mij een hele mooie reis. Leuk om te lezen "But maybe we don’t even want to take a look at the cheaply made and ugly knick‑knacks in your shop" hahaha

I really enjoyed reading your post. I totally agree, 'I just want to have a coffee on a crappy chair on a dusty terrace among the locals' too. Thanks for the link to the Hejaz Railway page. Makes you REALLY wish that line was still going. I suspect it would be an amazing journey. I am curious, how did you find the contrast between the markets of the Kingdom and Egypt? Did they tickle the senses differently?

Thank you! I truly hope the Hejaz Railway, or part of it, will be restored. At least they are renovating the train station (and the museum) in Medina. I also found this page about train travel in the Gulf area: https://thenational.shorthandstories.com/gulf-railway-gcc-uae-saudi-arabia-trains/

The contrast between Saudi Arabia and Egypt is striking; the former prefers to stay on the neat side, while Egypt is bustling and chaotic.

So interesting to read your thoughts about Saudi Arabia. I've been curious how their big tourism push will turn out.

Thanks! And I’m curious as well, they are very ambitious.

Hi Marloes!!! Great article with a very interesting comparison of these two countries but also the difference between a tourist and a traveller. Also, I don’t know many people who have been to Saudi Arabia and I’m thinking of going so this hit the spot! Finally, thank you for the mention 🩷

Thank you! And you should definitely go to Saudi Arabia.
