Marloes, this is amazing. When did you go? Did it change much since? Is the Karakol picture yours? Wonderful. I found Karakol and Tashkurgan on the map... I want to go. Your short story is eye-opening.
Amazing writing, I knew it would be worth the wait. This morning, just before I read this, we were discussing trains in Xinjiang and whether to book the sleeper from Ürümqi or Korla. This has given us another route to consider - Kuqa (those noodles sound amazing). Thanks for the inspiration and the shout out. I shall try my best not to bombard you with questions.
Fantastic and wonderfully done. It didn't feel too long at all. A few years ago in the news was the first time I'd heard of the Uyghurs. Did Marco Polo get there? Everyone insists spaghetti comes from here more or less guess. NB the image of the lady taking water from the lake ... had to click to see it at maximim size as it didn't show up in the text scrolling. One small typo (Ss....).

I’m so jealous you are going there. You will have a great time. And hopefully you will those noodles.

Thanks Philip! I checked and Marco Polo travelled to Kashgar and surroundings, so he was there!

I uploaded the photo of the lake again for sure 🤞 and removed the typo.
Check for another similar typo. It might be an L.
I hope I found that one as well.
