Hello! I’m Marloes1, and I live in Amsterdam. I’m obsessed with travelling, and I love sharing my travel experiences and advice with others. I’ve been to approximately xx countries, and it’s hard for me to pick a favourite. Travelling isn’t about making lists. It’s about the unique experiences each place offers; some are truly remarkable, while others might be less so. Instead of overwhelming my friends and family with my travel stories (so sorry for that), I’ve decided to reach out to a bigger audience.

Welcome to ‘Add This to Your Itinerary’!

My goal is to inspire you to create your own itineraries with tips and stories from the countries and regions I’ve been to. And I mean real stories. There are so many great places to explore, and I’m excited to share my travel advice with you.

» Add yourself to the list

With the ‘Add This to Your Itinerary’ newsletter I’d like to share travel inspiration about:

  • Destinations I’ve been to (cities, countries, regions)

  • Endless possibilities for itineraries, including overland journeys

  • And of course some practical and insightful travel tips

Some FAQ

Photos & Videos

All photos and videos in my posts are made by me unless I mentioned otherwise.

Use of AI

Yes, I use AI, mainly for checking grammar and spelling (in British English), and as a resource for synonyms and other language help. I also use it for research, which I always double-check.

I use Claude.ai. And while we are sharing, I also use platforms like Google, Thesaurus.com, Lightroom, Canva and Wikipedia. I’m always looking for digital tools to optimise my time.

Writer, traveller or amateur?

Writing isn’t my full-time job (I work in IT), but I have serious ambitions in that area. So no, it’s not ‘just a hobby’.

What is ‘Direct Dutch’?

In the spring of 2025 I introduced the section Direct Dutch. Read the whole introduction story in this post.

Marloes is a very Dutch name. It is a combination of Maria and Louis. It’s - like a lot of other Dutch words - hard to pronounce. So in a lot of countries people can call me Marie-Louise, Maria-Louisa, Mary-Lou (I don’t like that song by the way), Maluz or Miss Mallus. A newer variant I heard is Mariotz, I like it.
